Ways to Help Houston!!!!

#helpforhouston
The pictures and videos from Hurricane Harvey have broken my heart and brought tears to my eyes. Although the hurricane has passed through PEOPLE STILL NEED HELP! I know it’s not possible for all of us to physically go and help, but you can make a donation or like a lot of us are also doing, collecting items people will need after the storm ceases.  I know my Facebook feed has been filled with people who need everything from clothing to diapers to food to medicine and more.
Mel, Shaeffer and Shay have compiled a list of ways to help. Of course, this is not all of them, so if you have other ideas/options/suggestions, please comment and share.
*Go to Samaritan's Purse to make a credit card donation. We’ve had readers comment on how this organization helped them previously in times of need.  They have 5 tractor trailers currently on their way to Houston.
*Text HARVEY to 90999 to make a $10 donation to the American Red Cross. You can do this multiple times.  You can also visit redcross.org or call 1- 800-RED CROSS. American Red Cross depends on financial donations to help provide immediate relief.
*JJ WATT (a Houston Texan football player) created a donation page and he pledges that 100% of the donations will go straight to disaster relief, to the people in need.  You can find the site HERE.
*Our friends Courtney and Josh started a non-profit called Mission Regan several years ago in McKinney.  They specialize in delivering medical supplies to those in need (both locally and abroad), and right now they are putting together teams to deliver supplies to the hard hit areas in Houston.  The first team left yesterday, but they are already preparing for the 2nd round. Click HERE to donate.  Please specify “hurricane relief” in the square NOTES section and select “general fund” in the drop down box.  Click HERE to hop over to their facebook page to see a video they filmed yesterday showing some of their preparations getting ready to go.
*UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief):  you can donate HERE, and you can go HERE to find out about how to make relief kits.  They are not in need of volunteers at this time.
*The United Way has also announced a way to text a donation: Text UWFLOOD to 41444 to donate to the United Way Flood Relief Fund.
*Donations to support The Salvation Army's  Hurricane Harvey relief efforts can be made at helpsalvationarmy.org or by calling 1-800-SAL-ARMY.
*Carter Blood Care covers hospitals in north, central and east Texas. To donate, call 877-571-1000 or text DONATE4LIFE to 444-999.
*To help animals suffering from the disaster, visit the Houston Humane Society or the San Antonio Humane Society.
*The Texas Diaper Bank has issued an urgent request for donations, stating that diapers are not provided by disaster relief agencies. The diaper bank will be distributing emergency diaper kits to affected families.  You can donate money HERE, or you can send diapers to the following address:
The Texas Diaper Bank 5415 Bandera Road, Suite 504 San Antonio, TX 78238
*AABB coordinates a task force to manage blood collection efforts.
LOCAL EFFORTS:
Blood donations are also welcome at a time like this. Lifeblood said all blood types are needed. Click Here or call 901-290-9743 to schedule a blood donation appointment.
The City of Southaven Parks Department is teaming with Blue Bow Foundation to collect supplies to hurricane shelters in the Houston area. You can bring non-perishable food, bottled water, blankets and sheets, air mattresses, cots and nap mats for kids, diapers, baby wipes, formula and bottles, and gently used clothing to Southaven Parks Department at 3355 Pine Tar Alley from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday-Friday.
Day and Night Animal Hospital is working with Houston ASPCA to provide care for pets. You can bring dog and cat food, blankets, kennels, or any type of shelter, to 4670 Summer Avenue. Monetary donations will also be accepted. You can donate supplies between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday. The clinic will be closed Sunday and Money, but will accept donations Tuesday before being driven to Houston on Wednesday.
SHOP FOR A CAUSE:
*From now until the end of September, Chip and Joanna Gaines are donating 100 percent of the proceeds from their "Texas Forever" T-Shirt towards Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.
*Tori at All The Wire created a Texas Strong Bracelet.  $10 of every sale will go to disaster relief.

Mommy Confessions

I've recently been drawn to the Risen Motherhood podcasts. I'm not really sure why I started listening or even how I found out about them. All I know is that Laura and Emily are my heros and if they lived in Memphis we would be best friends. I've been convicted through their episodes to focus more on living my life for Christ and guiding Declan that way as well.

One thing I really like about them...even though there are a bazillion things I could list is that they are so honest and real. I love that Laura posted a New Mommy Confessions blog. So I am following her lead. Although mine are Toddler Mommy Confessions.

1. My son is 2.5 years old and not potty trained and I'm completely fine with that. And technically his new school states that his doesn't have to be potty trained until he starts the 3's class which isn't until September 2018. #andallthepeoplesaidamen I'm sorry but I am not a fan of public restrooms. Except for Target and I'm not really a fan I just think they pump something into the air that makes me have to go to the bathroom every. single. time I set foot in the glorious place that is Target.

2. I have goo intentions to do my quiet/time and bible study every morning before I start getting ready and it's probably only happened 3 times.....my whole life. I really really really want to get up super early. If you are a friend of mine you would know that I take an excessive amount of time to get ready. Always have, always will. I try but the time never changes. So for me to do quiet time before getting ready I would need to wake up at 4:30. It can be done I just haven't gotten the hang of it or even really started. Oops!

3. I'm desperate to eat better and have my family eat healthier consistently. In reality that doesn't really happen. However, we have switched to organic milk and organic mac n cheese so that cancels out all the Easter candy, right?

4. I care a lot about what others think of me to a fault. This is a big one. Working on it...getting better and know it's an issue with me. Next one. LOL!

5. I suck at budgeting. I'm such an impulse buyer. Hello Target. Another thing i'm working on.

5. Open enrollment for the Preschool we want Declan to attend started in February. We applied last Friday. Nothing like a little procrastination to start your weekend off right.

6. I have 3.5 days of vacation I have to use before May 31st and I really want to take a day to stay at my house and drink coffee and binge watch tv and read lots of books. I'm a nerd and an introvert and I don't care!

7. I'm obsessed with checking out books from the library and buying lots of books from Amazon and never reading them all the way through or even starting them. You could definitely call me a book hoarder. One day I will get to them all!

Easter 2017

Easter Weekend 2017 will go down in the books as one of the BEST Easter Weekends EVER! We started the weekend on Thursday with our church's Maundy Thursday service. It was our first time attending and we really enjoyed it. On Fridays we only work til 11 which makes for a great start to the weekend. I went and ran errands and got our Easter outfits together and we ended the day with "Pizza Friday". I'm loving ordering pizza and not cooking on Fridays. Saturday was spent returning stuff that didn't fit and visiting the Easter Bunny. Declan was more interested in playing with the Easter Decor around the room rather than the actual Bunny. We started out with a few high fives and knucks. Then he went and sat in his lap. However he wouldn't put his hands down which I thought was hilarious!

Saturday night around 11 pm I remembered that I needed to get his basket together. #momfail I love how his basket turned out. Jared's mom bought him this basket last year but it had a different liner. I really wanted the Pottery Barn one but couldn't bring myself to spend $60. Mimi to the rescue. I showed her the picture and she bought the material and sewed the liner. #momwin Now I just need to get his name monogrammed on it.

Sunday morning we got up bright and early and attended our church's Easter Service. It was amazing and really set the tone for the day. We truly have so much to be grateful for in Jesus Christ. I can't imagine sacrificing my own Son for the sin of the world and that is what God did with his Son Jesus so that we can spend eternal life with him in Heaven. What an undeserving reward for each of us that believe in Him. Check out the Easter service at Hope. I cried like a baby during the whole service.

Afterwards, we headed to my parent's house for egg hunting and shrimp and grits and LOTS OF CANDY! To say Declan enjoyed hunting eggs would be an understatement. He really got the concept this year and loved it! He got even more excited opening the eggs and finding the "surprises" in them.

Afterwards we headed to Jared's parents house for more Easter Fun! He got two baskets there. One from Ma and Papoo and another from Sissy and Pat Pat. Declan is one very loved little boy.

He cracked me up hunting the eggs. There were eggs that looked like "chickens" and every time he found one he would yell out "Chichen". I love his spin on works. He also calls "cheerios" "Chayros".

All that hunting wore him out so he needed to sit with Pat Pat on his new truck.

The "Paparazzi" following Declan.

Checking out his loot with Ma.

Fratastic Declan. For the record, he slept in his jersey last night.

After his bath it was time to shoot hoops. All of the sudden he started shooting backwards and was actually making it so I had to get it on video. Ignore, his cheering squad. #futuremichaeljordanonourhands

Easter Weekend wore us OUT but in the best way possible.

36 Things

Jared turns 36 today and I thought it would be fun to list 36 things that I love about him and make him the best ever!

1. We've been together officially 12 years!

2. He has the prettiest eyes and they light up when he's happy.

3. He can pick me up toss me around which makes me feel little. I've dated guys that weighed less than me and obviously those didn't work out. I like a guy that's sturdy!

4. He makes me laugh so much.

5. He puts up with my indecisiveness.

6. He washes the dishes almost every night.

7. He puts up with all my Fads and bandwagon obsessions!

8. He treats his Momma like a princess. Ladies, if you're dating take note of how your boyfriend treats his Momma. If it not up to your standards RUN like the wind and find you someone new.

9. He loves Jimmy Buffett.

10. He is the best Daddy to Declan.

11. He loves his family something fierce and will do anything for them!

12. He comes from a big family which I love.

13. He likes to drive. I greatly dislike to drive so it works out for me!

14. He's really good at basketball. I can't wait to watch him and Declan in the driveway shooting hoops.

15. He's the best friend ever! I love the way he loves his friends and values their friendships.

16. He can watch a movie over and over and over and over again.

17. He cooks some mean scrambled eggs.

18. He takes care of my family as if they were his own.

19. He listens to me when I have a bad day and always knows the right things to say.

20. We both work at FedEx, in the same department, in the same building and ride to work together and we haven't killed each other...WINNING!

21. He reads books that I suggest even though I know he doesn't really want to.

22. He was born 2 years and 2 days before me and totally stole my birthday thunder and I'm not even upset with it.

21. He wants to have a girl next and I think that's the cutest thing ever.

22. He's so protective of his sister.

23. He really like pizza.

24. He gets on Facebook all the time but never comments or posts. If you get a comment or post from him he mist really like you or it's me on his account.

25. He isn't good at keeping secrets from me.

26. He's really good at wake boarding.

27. He's cuter now than the day we met.

28. We met at Brookhaven and we were dating other people and I'll never forget telling my best friend Katie that if I was single he would be my first choice to date!

29. I chased him around for a year before we finally started dating.

30. Our song is the Humpty Dance because our "first kiss" was after the Digital Underground concert at Newby's.

31. He single handedly moved me out of one of my apartments into the other while I was at work one day.

32. He writes the best notes in cards.

33. He found a list of all of our future kids names that I had written on a paper shortly after we started dating and he didn't run.

34. He once drove all 14 hours home from Wisconsin because I talked him into going to see my family and we got bumped from our flight going home.

35. He gives the best back rubs. I think he's given me like 500 bazillion and I've give him like two.

36. He's the most selfless man I've ever met!

Happy Birthday Jared Dale Franks!! I love you more now than the day we met! I cant' wait to celebrate 70 more birthdays together!

What's Up Wednesday...on a Thursday.....The Story of My Life Now

I've taken so much time off from blogging that I didn't know where to start. When I read Shay's "What's Up Wednesday" post I figured this would be perfect. So today I'm linking up with Shay, Sheaffer and Mel for my edition of What's Up Wednesday.

1. What We're Eating This Week....

Jared and I are both on day 9 of Whole30. I feel super accomplished to make it this far but it is kicking my tail. I've had many times this past week that I've wanted to throw in the towel. I mean how many eggs can one person eat. If you have anything you really have liked on this let me know!

2. What I'm Reminiscing About....

One of my most favorite people at work passed away this past weekend. When I tell you he was the epitome of a Servant Leader I wouldn't even be scratching the surface, He had such an impact on FedEx and every person he encountered he helped and truly cared for as well. He was the manager that interviewed me and hired me and I wanted to be on his team so bad. However I was placed on another team but that didn't matter to him he helped me just as much as if I was on his team. He had a huge impact on Jared and both of us hope to leave an impact like he did to those we are around. I mean how could you not love this guy???

3. What I'm Loving....

I'm loving that the weather will be cooler this whole weekend. Although 70 degrees last weekend was nice it's January I need cold weather!

4. What We've Been Up To....

Not a whole bunch. Were in the process of getting our house ready to sell so alot of cleaning and purging. Nothing that exciting and we haven't been out to eat really at all bc of Whole30.

5. What I'm Dreading....

Keeping our house ready for showings with a dog and a 2 year. It sounds terrible!

6. What I'm Working On....

Myself. I need some help in the wifeing (I know that's not a word) and parenting and friending department. I'm working hard on being present and putting away the phone. I also need to work on spending time with the Big Man upstairs daily too!
Updated: I purchased the book Jesus Always per Shay's recomendation and am loving it so far. (I've only read one day.)

7. What I'm Excited About....

Finishing Whole30. I'm loving how I feel but am wanting to eat some sweets and rice. I don't think I'll add much dairy back in to my diet but am missing some of my snacks.

8. What I'm Watching/Reading....

We started the OA yesterday on NetFlix. I also watched Bridget Jones' Diary and absolutely love it.

I'm also reading The Hating Game by Sally Thorne

and

Daring Greatly by Brene Brown

My goal is 36 books this year.

9. What I'm Listening To....

I've been on Podcast kick lately. My favorites are Dave Ramsey, Life Church Sermons and I recently discovered the Village Church Sermons. Matt Chandler is a very engaging speaker and keep my attention!

10. What I'm Wearing.....

A whole lot of leggings and tunics. I'm attempting to get more work clothes next month so stay tuned,

11. What I'm Doing This Weekend....

A whole lot of nothing. Probably cleaning and organizing and keeping my fingers crossed for a trip to Ikea.

12. What I'm Looking Forward to Next Month....

Completing the Whole30 and celebrating LOTS of birthday. It's my mom's, Jared's, mine, my cousin, her daughter, my sister's boyfriend and two of my very closest friends!

13. What Else is New....

Declan wrote an "A" for the first time yesterday. It's very abstract but for his first time I'm giving him an "A+"!!
